Vineyards: Southern Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands comprise the warmest growing region in Canada. The Islands have their origin in fiery volcanic rock, and have been scoured by three ice ages, warming the land and creating microclimates which winemakers now exploit. This terroir is ideal to grow some of the world’s best cool-climate grapes, and yields elegant, aromatic wines reminiscent of northern Europe. Whale Watching

Victoria's spectacular coastal waters teem with an abundance of marine wildlife. Whale and Marine Wildlife Watching expeditions have become one of Victoria's most popular activities. The waters around Southern Vancouver Island are home to a number resident pods of Orca.

You can also see gray and humpback whales (in season) dozens of species of seabirds, Pacific White Sided Dolphin, playful Dall's and Harbour Porpoise, Elephant Seals & Seal Pups, Sea Lions and the majestic Bald Eagles. Vancouver Island has the largest population of resident Killer Whales anywhere in the world. There are nearly 100 whales in total. The whales are most active from April to October.

In Victoria, colourful and lively shops, boutiques from designer labels to native art and antique stores are lining the main streets, together with the assortment of artisan booths decorating the side alleys and open city squares. Or go a bit further, to Sidney on the sea and find hidden treasures such as the unique Tradewind store on Bevan Ave.

Fishing

Many Fishing Charters are specializing in saltwater fishing, mainly for Salmon and Halibut. Those Charters fish in a variety of places around Victoria, depending on the season and what type of fish their customers want to fish for. Victoria waters offer a very mild climate year round, which also provides for excellent year round fishing. With our beautiful summers and mild winters there are excellent fishing opportunities all year.

Hiking and Nature Trails

Hike some of the most spectacular Nature Trails offered anywhere in Pacific North West. For example, the West Coast Trail is an internationally acclaimed hiking trail that retraces an old telegraph route that once connected Victoria with Cape Beale near Bamfield. This fog-prone coastline has a remarkable history of shipwrecks dating back to the earliest European records of the 1786
